Review - A Thorne for a Crown by Lorel Clayton

My Copy of the Book

Blurb:
The first real case femme fatale turned private eye, Eva Thorne, has had in months may be more than she can handle. King Rutgard has been kidnapped, only he's not entirely alive, which makes finding him difficult. What's more, dwarf men are joining the suffragist movement in droves to win freedom from the matriarchy, and there's a werewolf terrorist in town causing chaos. Eva needs a case like this to make her reputation, but she has problems of her own. Dark magic is rising in her, the Thorne legacy, and she can't control it. She has to find a way or risk imprisonment by the jackbooted elf soldiers who are cracking down on illegal necromancy and worship of the Dead God. Worse, the God of Death wants her soul, as does her twin sister, so Eva denies her magic and hides from her family. But some things are impossible to hide from, like the tax collector … and love.

About the Author(s):
Lorel and Clayton were both born and raised in the Western United States and were teen sweethearts, brought together by a fierce love of books and hormones, of course. They traveled to Australia in 1997 and never left, finding the sunshine and beaches of “Oz” too irresistible. Lorel has a PhD in Pathology and Once Upon a Time did cancer research before turning to marketing. Clayton has a Master’s Degree in Visual Art and prefers Expressionist painting in acrylics but has recently tackled digital painting, mostly because there’s a hyperactive four-year-old boy running around the house (their gorgeous son, in case you were wondering if that’s normal). Despite having been married for twenty-five years, they are still madly in love and still writing! As writing partners, they meld logic and creativity, as well as genres. Fantasy, science-fiction, mystery, horror, steampunk, thriller, romance, and the classics—they read them all, and if they can mix them they will.

My Take on the Book:
Eva Thorne really steps up to the plate in this novel; causing me to absolutely devour this book...I cannot praise it enough! She really takes charge here; and you find some very deceitful and power hungry characters here too, it's frightening what power can do in the wrong hands. There was a lot going on in this book, which I really loved. I can't understand how someone can like death, destroying/killing and causing chaos. A full 5 star rating from me, and worth every little bit of it! I got a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Last Word:
I've got some serious book boyfriend issues in this book as well...it's terrible! In this one, an evil god is very compelling and charmingly attractive...how can I be attracted to someone like this...it's not right...but I can't help myself. And now that this novel's ended on a cliffhanger, I've got to wait anxiously for the next one...I need to know what's going to happen next, eek!

Enjoy,
Carmen.
